- This reaction is driven by the formation of extremely strong nitrogen-nitrogen triple bond. Diazo compounds are often prone to loss of nitrogen. Other examples of this are the Balz-Schiemann reaction, the Sandmeyer reaction, the Semi-Pinacol reaction and the Tiffeneau-Demjanov reaction.
 
- Another method which can be used to remove carbonyl groups is the Clemmensen reduction. 
 
- This reaction often follows the Friedel-Crafts Acylation to achieve the same product as the less predictable Friedel-Crafts Alkylation.
