     Fluorine and Hydrochloric Acid

The electrons in the HF molecules are pulled strongly toward the fluorine atom. When HF is dissolved in water, the polar water molecules help to complete the process, and pull many of the HF molecules apart into ions:

HF ----> H+ + F-
