Extensions

A solution of boric acid in ethanol (1g in 10cm makes a saturated solution) gives a green flame. This is used as the basis of a qualitative test for borates.

Ensure that the spray bottles are trigger operated, with a piston rather than a scent spray pump where a rubber bulb is squeezed. This will prevent the possibility of the flame flashing back into the container.
