    Atomic Spectra and Expanding Galaxies

If the history of this expanding universe were plotted backward in time, the galaxies would meet at a common locale approximately 15 billion years ago.

This is the basis for the "big bang" theory of the universe, which proposes that everything began in a cosmic explosion 15 billion years ago, and that the galaxies are island universes of stars that represent the expanding debris from this first cosmic event.

All this from shifted frequencies in atomic spectra!
