Chromium Part 1

These tests are carried out using a solution (~0.2M) of chrome alum, empirical formula KCr(SO4)2.12H2O.

Compare its colour with that of chromium(III) chloride.

What can you infer from this comparison?
Nothing.
The chromium ion must be in different oxidation states in the two compounds.
The different ligand environment gives rise to the different colours.
