values. The ortho, meta, and para isomers of cresol, which differ
only in the relative positions of substituents around the aromatic
ring, all have roughly the same weak acidity. The -OH group is only
acidic when it is attached directly to an aromatic ring. Benzyl
alcohol is not an acid; it is an alcohol similar to ethanol.

The -CH-
group effectively insulates the -OH from the ring and prevents it
from joining the delocalized electron system.
Benzyl alcohol is a structural isomer of the three cresols, since
they all have the ame overall formula, CHO.
